Mobile workstation: improving workflow efficiency at Quantum Radiology Bankstown
How Ergotron mobile PC trolleys and an LG Clinical Review Monitor helped Quantum Radiology Bankstown adopt digital worksheets without sacrificing speed or ergonomics.
Quantum Radiology Bankstown has been at the forefront of diagnostic imaging services, providing high-quality radiology solutions to the local community. When the clinic transitioned to digital worksheets for ultrasound, several practical constraints threatened workflow efficiency.
Challenges
The shift to digital worksheets created logistical pressure: there were not enough computer terminals for the new system, few viable spots for extra fixed terminals, and the layout of the clinic meant a long walk between the ultrasound room and the nearest PCs—making timely access to the system difficult.
Proposed solution: mobile workstation
To address this, we recommended the Ergotron Mobile PC Trolley: an ergonomic, multi-purpose workstation built for mobility in clinical environments. Staff could reach digital worksheets without being tied to fixed desks.
Implementation and added value
After review, a fixed PC between rooms would have limited flexibility. Assigning one computer to a staff member on a mobile cart reduced the number of fixed terminals required and kept reporting and imaging tasks close to the patient pathway.
The trolley also acts as a practical workstation: shelves and baskets hold consumables, scanners, and paperwork. For consistent image review we paired the setup with an LG Clinical Review Monitor with automatic DICOM calibration so studies are viewed to a recognised medical imaging standard.
Result
Following installation, feedback was strongly positive. The first unit went to the Chief Radiographer; other staff soon asked for their own carts. Moving freely between areas cut delays and supported day-to-day productivity.
Closing
Flexible, ergonomic hardware can materially improve how a busy imaging clinic runs day to day—not only operationally, but for staff experience.
